Race Information

Lace up those running shoes and get those buns in gear for the 32nd Schlotzsky’s Bun Run! This year’s Bun Run will feel like a completely new race as there are lotz of exciting changes – we have a new beneficiary, JDRF, a new date and a new location! The Bun Run is the perfect race for casual runners and serious racers! And don’t forget the kids and pets! Kids are welcome to sign up for the 5K, but if they aren’t quite ready they can run the kids only 1K! And bring along man’s best friend for an easy jog or enter your pet to be timed to see if your dog is the Fastest Dog in Austin.

The Schlotzsky’s Bun Run benefits our corporate national cause, JDRF, formerly Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Proceeds from the race will go directly to JDRF to benefit both the national and local chapters. Since announcing JDRF as our corporate national cause in 2012, Schlotzsky’s has provided more than $325,000 in support and donations to JDRF.

Course

The 5K course will start at the corner of Alterra Parkway & Kramer Lane and take runners down Alterra Parkway to Palm Way where they’ll head to Burnet Road, loop back to Alterra to head down to Esperanza Crossing, then into The Domain around the shops and up Century Oaks Terrace before coming back down Esperanza Crossing and back to Alterra Parkway & Kramer Lane. The Kid's K will be a fast, fun 1K race and will start and end at the start/finish line.

Kid's K

If your kids aren't quite ready for a full 5K and still want to get out and run - sign 'em up for the Kid's K! It's a fun, easy 1K race for kids 12 and under. After the race, bring them to the Kid's Korral at the Expo where they can enjoy fun activities, including a bounce house, face painting, special treats and more. Kid's K registration includes a Bun Run T-shirt, an official race number and a winner ribbon.

Team Challenge

You know what's even more fun than running the Schlotzsky's Bun Run? Running the race as part of a team. Challenge your friends, family members and coworkers to a little friendly competition and sign up a team to run the race. The more teams we get on the course, the more money we raise for JDRF - and the more fun you have! Registered teams will automatically be entered to win prizes for Austin's Fittest Buns, Austin's Fastest Buns, Austin's Best Lookin' Buns and Austin's Most Generous Buns.

Fastest Dog in Austin

Think your dog is the fast dog in the city? Then prove it! When you register to run the 5K you can add man's best friend to your chip timer and your dog's time will be clocked in along with yours. We'll have special awards after the race for the official Fastest Dog in Austin. Have a dog that prefers a Sunday stroll to racing pace? That's okay! The Bun Run is one of the few dog friendly races in town, so bring ‘em out to run, jog or walk with you! Just make sure all dogs participating in the run are on a leash.
